Be a Shifter.

10shift4

I was introduced to the 10% Shift Initiative when I went to check out Somerville Local First, an orginization that supports independently owned local businesses (Kickass Cupcakes and Dave’s Fresh Pasta are both members). The 10% shift is all about how much buying local can really do.  Studies show that shifting just 10% of your budget to local independents can create 48,000 new jobs, generate over $5 billion of increased economic activity in New England, inspire the formation thousands of new entrepreneurial ventures, decrease thousands of tons of greenhouse gas emissions, and revitalize local New England communities.  Visit their site to see how they can help you get more local and sign a pledge to be a shifter.
